Jay Gordon, an incredible blues-rock
guitarist commended by none other than Eric Clapton himself, and Donnell
Cameron, a pioneer sound engineer and mixer and innovative producer of the
Southern California punk sound, are set to meet in Hollywood in May and
June at Westbeach Recorders recording studio to work together on a new
album.
Gordon has released more than 12
albums—his most recent is Immortal—including several on the French
label, Dixie Frog/Blue Ace/Shuttle Music. A world-class guitarist whose
tasty fretwork is admired by rock, blues and heavy metal aficionados,
Gordon has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, and played
at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.
Donnell has produced albums by a
startling array of major bands, including Blink-182, Bad Religion, Avenged
Sevenfold, Sublime, and various Dave Alvin projects. Albums produced by
Donnell have resulted in millions of dollars worth of sales. He owns
Westbeach Recorders, the storied recording studio that once belonged to
Ray Charles, and in which Pink Floyd laid down the tracks for The Wall.
Gordon and Donnell have known each
other for two decades, They worked on three of Jay's albums about fifteen
years ago, that were very successful in the European blues world. One of
those albums was Jaywalkin which featured the legendary blues man Phillip
Walker. Donnell recently heard Immortal and loved it. He subsequently
produced a two-song single that Gordon and his band, The Penetrators,
recorded at Westbeach. This single, featuring a psychedelic rock cover of
the famous Grace Slick tune “White Rabbit,” with Penetrators’
bassist Sharon Butcher laying down the haunting melodic vocals.
Beginning on September 2010, the musician, his band, and the producer will record
10 new songs on an album that is still untitled. Their stated intention is
to come out of the studio with, to quote Gordon, “the most explosive
rock record in history.”
That is a very tall order, but don’t
bet against it, for if anybody can live up to this benchmark, it’s these
two music-saturated, Hollywood legends.
Donnell Cameron wants to do the
ultimate rock/blues album, with he and Jay producing and mixing ten new
songs.
Two legends of Hollywood team up to
make an explosive rock record, one they hope will go down in rock history.
Donnell and Jay producing &
mixing the ultimate rock record at West Beach Studios, once owned and
operated Ray Charles. Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” was recorded there,
and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors.”
Cammeron is responsible for the
millions in sales for bands such as: Avenge Sevenfold, Bad Religion, The
Offspring, Sublime, No FX, Penny Wise, Blink 182, Dave Alvin.
